Highlights from Week One of the World Equestrian Summer Show Series

The summer heat is officially here, but things are heating up even faster inside the rings! Week One of the World Equestrian Center (WEC) Summer Show Series kicked off in spectacular fashion, welcoming elite riders, stunning equine athletes, and passionate fans to witness world-class equestrian sport.

From the electric atmosphere of the Grand Arena to the elegance of the hunter rings, the opening week delivered nail-biting finishes, flawless rounds, and a glimpse of what promises to be an unforgettable summer circuit.

The Welcome Prix

The action kicked off with the Welcome Prix, a fast-paced class that served as the perfect curtain-raiser for the week. Riders wasted no time testing their horses' gears, finding tight inside turns and shaving fractions of a second off the clock. The field was stacked, but a select few managed to secure that coveted double-clear effort to book their ticket to the top of the leaderboard.

The Saturday Night Grand Prix

The undisputed crown jewel of Week One was the Grand Prix under the lights. The grandstands were packed, the energy was palpable, and the competition was fierce.

After a challenging first round that forced riders to navigate careful combinations and delicate verticals, only a handful of horse-and-rider combinations advanced to the jump-off. In a flat-out race against the clock, the winning pair found an incredible gallop to the final oxer, leaving all the rails up and securing the week's ultimate blue ribbon.

Week One Champions & Winners Circle

Week One crowned some phenomenal partnerships that absolutely dominated the leaderboards. Congratulations to the horse-and-rider combinations who locked in the ultimate blue ribbons to kick off the summer series:

Tracy Fenney & MTM Apple: This legendary duo brought the crowd to its feet by claiming a spectacular victory in the feature Grand Prix. Navigating the jump-off with blazing speed, Fenney and the scopey mare executed a foot-perfect double-clear effort to secure the week’s highest honor

Jad Dana & Leonidas: A powerhouse pairing that took the winner's circle by storm. Dana piloted the sleek gelding to the top spot in the featured speed tracks, leaving the field in the dust with tight, masterclass turns and an uncatchable pace.

Ryan Painter & Syncopation: Dominating the hunter rings, Painter piloted this gorgeous mount, owned by Jo Ann Niffenegger, to a brilliant victory in the Open Hunter Derby, impressing the judges with flawless style over the high options.

Erynn Ballard & Paladin 116: Ballard piloted her exceptionally careful mount to a major victory in the international jumper division, laying down a clinical, high-speed performance to cross the timers ahead of a heavily stacked field.

USHJA National Hunter Derby

The Hunter Derby was a true masterclass in elegance. Smooth tracks and high-option jumps allowed the riders to show off their horses' athletic abilities and brilliant handiness. The top spots were separated by mere fractions of a point, with the judges rewarding seamless rhythm and flawless style over the high options.
